US Treasury Imposes New Sanctions on Iranian Crypto Exchanges Amid Broader Crackdown
The US Treasury has escalated its sanctions regime against Iran, targeting four cryptocurrency exchanges accused of facilitating cross-border value transfers for the Iranian government. Nobitex, described as Iran's largest digital asset platform, stands accused of processing over half of all Iranian crypto inflows in 2025 while allegedly supporting terrorist financing and sanctions evasion.
Officials claim the exchanges enabled hundreds of millions in stablecoin transactions to prop up Iran's faltering currency and provided access to international markets for regime insiders. The move forms part of the administration's 'Economic Fury' initiative, reflecting growing concern about crypto's role in circumventing traditional financial sanctions.
